Home made oat milk, yes that’s correct. I love making things myself that I normally buy on a daily basis. This saves a lot of waste and honestly, home made food / drinks always taste better.
Oat milk is a very good and healthy alternative to dairy milk. It’s lactose free and if you buy certified oats, it’s gluten free as well. You can use it the same way as you would use soy milk or any nut milk. And what about calcium intake? Oat milk is rich in calcium. One cup provides around 35% of your daily intake of calcium. And it is not over yet… This milk is very rich in essential nutrients like vitamine A, B, C, D and E, iron and magnesium.
Oat milk is low in fat, free of cholesterol and contains a lot of soluble fiber, mainly beta glucan, which has a positive impact on your immune system. All in all enough reason to add oat milk to your grocery list, or use this recipe and make your own version!
Home made oat milk with vanilla and dates
- 100 gr oatmeal
- 750 ml water
- 30 gr medjool dates
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
Soak the oats 1 night in water. Then drain and rinse
Add all ingredients to your blender and blend on high speed for 1,5 minutes
Wet a cheese cloth or nut milk bag and use it to sieve the oat milk. Squeeze well, so that you get as much milk as possible
Poor the milk into a glass bottle and keep in the fridge
